Roughly half of UK credit union deposits are lent to members. The rest sits in fixed-term deposits, notice accounts and working cash. It is often managed through spreadsheets, emails, paper approvals and one-to-one bank relationships. This paper sets out how the Murmuration Treasury Marketplace could bring that work into one governed platform and give the sector far more negotiating power.
On its own, a credit union negotiates as a single depositor. Together, the sector can negotiate as a multi-billion-pound institutional investor.
This principle runs through the whole module. Every credit union keeps ownership of its funds, sets its own treasury policy, chooses which banks it will and won't use, and approves every movement of money. Recommendations are advisory and explainable, and no funds move without explicit approval.
The paper also covers the commercial model (no separate software licence fee, with the platform funded through the treasury and banking returns it helps generate), five-year worked examples, risk and compliance controls, and an implementation roadmap.
